Dishwasher Detergent

Today, I made my first batch of homemade dishwasher detergent. It works great!  I’m so excited because commercial detergents are full of chemicals.  Those chemicals get into our water supply and into the air we breathe via the steam the dishwasher produces when it runs.  I don’t want my family to breathe in that stuff. So, I mixed up the following concoction:

1 c. baking soda

1 c. Borax

1/2 c. Kosher salt.

I also added a pack of Crystal Lite I had laying around (you could also use a package of unsweetened Lemon Kool-Aid–it’s cheaper than buying citric acid, which is another alternative).

Mix everything together in a resealable container.  Use about 1 1/2 T. per load (this may vary depending on your machine and your water) .

Fill the rinse compartment with white vinegar.
