Part 2 in a series of 100 Things About Me. Read the first 10 items here.
11) I am an only child. I mean, I’m the only GIRL. Growing up, I thought that meant the same thing.
12) I love flying. I get it from my dad.
13) Even though I’ve gotten to fly in lots of different planes, I really want to ride in one of these:
14) My parents were missionaries in the Philippines, where everybody spoils white kids by giving them water buffaloes. I mean candy.
15) We lived on a coffee plantation and climbed cocoa trees for fun. I know. This explains a lot.
16) I am not responsible for my addictions (see #15). I like my coffee light and my chocolate dark.
17) My dream is to take my family back to the Philippines. In a hot air balloon.
18) While in the Philippines, my older brother and I went away to boarding school during the week. Ron and Sandy Lashuay were our dorm parents, and their three kids were the best playmates.
19) My dad was killed in a car accident when I was eleven. He’s been busy praising Jesus ever since.
20) My Aunt Sandy Lashuay, as we called her, died when I was 19, after a long and horrible battle with cancer. She was incredibly brave. God brought my mom and Ron together and joined our two families and gave us “beauty for ashes, strength for fear, kindness for mourning, peace for despair.” (Crystal Lewis)
Read on here for ten more things about me!
I just stumbled on your blog! I’m a missionary in Papua New Guinea and we first came here in 2006. My husband and I have five kids too ages 11, 9,8,6, and 3. I’m homeschooling as well. Their favorite things are coco beans and coconuts! You should make those t- shirts ! I would buy one except without the twin comments since I don’t have any! Been asked ” are they all yours? Or “Do you know how that happens?” Plenty of times! Anyway thanks for making me chuckle today!
Everyone *does* get a water buffalo!! Who knew?? I’m enjoying reading your blog 🙂 A lot of your experiences are similar, but really, it’s just that I get along with other gingers well.
Haha, I was an only child too (I had 3 younger brothers!) And dark chocolate and coffee keep me moving.
Amen!
I really like this idea of doing an on-going 100 things about me and breaking them up in 10s. I just might have to steal this idea 😉
Steal away! I started a list of 100 things and I got bored reading it MYSELF! This allows me to be a little more creative and funny, and gives me the time to look for some old embarrassing photos. Basically, it’s a win-win for everyone!
Haha Agreed!!
I am disappointed there was another “ten more things…”.
I am working on items 21-30 today! I’ve been doing one list of ten per week, so as not to overwhelm readers who really wished I’d stopped at the first ten. 🙂 I want to make them fun and interesting to read, so hopefully it doesn’t sound like a big monologue about my favorite foods or pets (not that there’s anything wrong with that). So, stay tuned! And THANK YOU for reading! I appreciate your comments.
Hello from Mindanao! What great memories, Kristen! Thanks for sharing.
Wish I was there!
It must have been fun and different growing up in my humble country, Philippines! Hope you can visit again! Take care and God bless you!
Oh, it was absolutely the best experience ever! I love the Philippines. I lived on Mindanao, and it is one of the most beautiful places in the world, and full of the most beautiful people. I got to go back for almost a year right after high school, and it was a wonderful experience. I’d love to live there again!
Okay, I updated the post with my second round of photos. Better, still not great. I fear I am just doomed to a life of mediocre pictures. Also, I know I am not getting the most out of new Canon G11. There must be a better way to use it. I feel like I need a tutor. Volunteers welcome.
To alicia what the HELL does this have to do with rap music?!! And if you are going to go there on yet another hypocritical whinefest then pick on EVERYBODY who purports negative images of black females and not just rappers.
Herlig Randi!!! :)))BÃ¥de referatet etter bloggtreffet og vinterbildene dine. Vakkert, med en helt fantastisk god stemning! :)Vise ord pÃ¥ tavlen der hos Irina. Veldig flott! 🙂
I knew we were kindred spirits! I grew up a missionary kid in Papua New Guinea. My Dad is also a very tall man who loves flying little planes, and I drink my coffee light and love dark chocolate! Really enjoy your posts! Thankyou!
Wonderful! I have cousins (and an aunt and uncle, of course) who grew up in Papua New Guinea! What a small world.
What an amazing story of God’s goodness and grace.
Amen and amen on you and your mom’s great taste in men!!!!
I think my dad has great taste in women. 🙂 So glad he and your mom found each other.
Am glad that you’re favorite bear got his picture in the photo, too! 🙂
I love that mug. *sigh* It’s chipped and stained and I still lug it everywhere, and the quote still makes me smile. Thanks, David!
Very cute! And in your brothers’ defense – they always used to wish you were an only child, too, just someone else’s only child! 😉
And God is good, isn’t He! All the time!!!
A coffee plantation and climbing cocoa trees? It’s all so clear now…
I am a product of my environment, what can I say. 🙂
Is that Notch, at Nasuli? If it is, and I would almost swear on my life that it is, I’m wigging out here. I grew up in Nasuli, Bukidnon, Philippines. What years were you there?
Yes! We were just outside of Malaybalay, but we went to Nasuli during the week. We were only there for a couple years, and only went away to school in ’83-84, maybe into part of ’85. I’d have to double check with the family historian (aka, Mom) to be sure. It was the best place EVER! I went back in college and got to see it. It’s changed a lot, but the spring is still there. Did you ever go swimming in it?
I do believe that was the dorm called Notch, but I’m not sure. And I’m pretty sure that the year my parents were dorm parents was ’84-85. I could be wrong though. My sister and I were there again in ’86-87, in the same dorm
