*This is a little story I wrote for my twins, Micah and Paul, because they love tractors.
Plowing Day
Tractor, tractor, rise and shine!
Wake your engine—it’s plowing time!
The farmer’s ready, the plow’s on right,
Hop on board and hold on tight!
The snow has melted, the sky is blue,
Turn the key–there’s work to do!
Tractor, tractor, rumble and shout!
Scatter the cats who linger about.
Down the lane with Dog at your heels,
Barking at the rocks that bump your wheels.
Rumble, rumble, up the street.
Here comes a car for you to greet!
Hello green car, follow behind.
Hello red car, get in line!
Here comes another, following slow,
A yellow and a blue car join the row.
One, two, three and one car more!
Follow the tractor past the store.
Wave to the children in the bus,
Say to the truck “Come follow us!”
Tractor, tractor, here at last,
Watch the cars as they drive past.
Green and red, yellow and blue,
A big white truck and a school bus too!
Now at the field; no time to play!
Till up the earth—it’s plowing day!
Here comes a goose, and then a duck,
Digging in the dirt for worms to pluck.
Rumble, rumble, keeping time,
Up the rows and down the line.
Honk at the geese who honk at you,
One more turn and then you’re through.
Tractor, tractor, down the row!
The sun is setting; it’s time to go.
The fields are plowed, the night is deep,
Drive back to the barn and
go
to
sleep.
